Most I've seen do not handle it well and they don't relinquish ports after they're done using them. Different routers implement them differently. This becomes an issue when you have multiple game consoles that request traffic on one port.īasically any Router today is includes support for UPnP, which stands for Universal Plug 'n Play. Due to (most) houses only having one Public IP address (your WAN IP) all of your local private addresses need to be NAT'd to reach the outside world. Most time we would all be Moderate NAT, or one is Open while the rest were Moderate or even Strict.įor those that do not know, NAT stands for Network Address Translation, and it was invented due to the limited number of Public IP addresses in the world. In my home setup, we have three PS4's usually playing together. I had previously owned an Asus N66U as my home router. I've recently discovered the final solution to getting Open NAT for multiple PS4's 100% of the time. TL DR: Look below where I write the steps used to obtain Open NAT on multiple consoles.
